Whatever the eye can see, and the ear can hear, the mind will perceive. This is one of the most important ideas behind magic. For years, many people have made others to believe things that are not even true, by showing them to see, and causing the sound, sometimes as simple as “see, I told you” to force their mind to perceive it. Once the mind has perceived, the body reacts depending on the situation.
This is one of the reasons a lot of people, including inspirational speakers, and life coaches have cautioned about the people we relate with as friends, the books we read, the TV programs we watch, and so on and so forth. But what if the problem isn’t the people around us, or the books we read, or the videos we watch? What if the problem, the real problem is much closer than we think?
Before reaching the age of 5, I had already developed the heart of coveting women I thought were beautiful. I grew in a late 90s village setting, implying I had no access to erotic TV program. My father made sure I had good childhood friends. Even though I didn’t know what having a wife meant, I knew who to feel jealous of, and who to admire. Where had I learned this from? From my parents? From my Sunday school? Not from the community. The answer is that the monster was in me even though I was still young.
The fear of being left alone, the fear of losing status, the pride to prove, the jealousy of what others have, all are not from outside. The internal insecurity actually causes more danger than the pressure from outside. It triggers negative energy that causes hate, resentment, jealousy, pride, murder, idolatry, adultery, and many other evils.
Let’s think of it this way, do they force anyone to make friends with the bad guy in town, or they willingly go there to join them? Do they force anyone to go to the internet to watch pornographic contents, or willingly they access those sites? For all I know, a movie warning is always displayed at the beginning of a movie, but why would one desire to watch what is not suitable? Is the real problem really on the outside?
One day as kids were watching a movie, they reached a kissing scene. Even though the scene wasn’t in an enclosed setting, most of the kids closed their eyes. I wondered why they closed their eyes, but most of them felt it was nasty. I asked myself, was it nasty because they were told while a scene like such was going on, or their instincts just told them it’s wrong?
If they were told, or their instincts couldn’t allow them, that I don’t know. But what I can agree with is that some of them will fall in love and kiss before they live high school. What has changed? Shall we blame the movies and the friends, or the voice inside that keeps telling them the reverse of truth? The reality is that we have always been fighting a wrong enemy while protecting the right enemy.
The voice from within is so strong that it shows when to do, where to do, and how to do anything. Instinctively, it will tell someone to hide when doing what is not morally approved. It teaches to hide the truth whenever a wrong thing is done. It shows how to find the rightful people, who will help cover the actions, birds of the same feathers flocking together. This is why some friendships don’t work, because the voices within are speaking differently.
Sadly, the things that cannot find ways to the heart cannot change the man within. The flogs, the imprisonment, the marginalization, the scoffs, and other things that people do to try change the situations often don’t work. This is because the problems are within. For this reason, many innocent people have fallen prey of the evil, making innocent people to get rapped, some of them turned to orphans, innocent people lost their jobs, injustice has consumed the world, and many other vices.
Corrupt people who have been arrested and released, most of them never left the habit. In fact, some of them became more smart, disguising as religious leaders with heavy titles, using their old tricks to gain followers, whom they take advantage of in different ways. Where then is the hope of redemption? Can a sinner ever be good enough?
The good news is that there is one who can change the situation. The same who formed the man from blood, to bones and tissues, to the man we can see can assuredly change the situation, and He wants to help. As it is said, “whoever calls the name of the Lord, shall be saved”. Whatever situations, be it drugs, pornography, resentment, or any addiction, only God can surely change it.
For this reason, Jesus said, “…I am come into this world, that they which see not might see”. He can give eyes that can see what is wrong, ears that can hear, and mind that can understand. He is willing to offer the strength we all need to fight our battle against the evil one. All He desires to do this, is just to surrender to Him all our struggles.
