Growing up we all had dreams and along the way some of those dreams faded away, washed in misery, pain and failure while others were built up and nurtured. In that young age the life ahead was unsullied and never an opened book. A brand new book waiting to be cracked open and hopefully presumably we awaited a grand story ahead. We are the writers of our stories and whatever it is we want to achieve, we play a major role in spicing and making our story enticing. At the same time we have the real author of our story who is God our creator and He alone knows the end of our story. The solid truth remains that when we do not see God as He is we may never see ourselves as we are.
Growing up as a young child I was taught that there should never be room for failure in one’s life. I used to do exploits in everything I did not because I was genius but rather because failure never existed in our family dictionary. I was raised in an environment where there was no room for mistakes hence I grew up with the mentality that mistakes were unnatural. I always knew much was expected from me all rounded and I dreaded making mistakes. I detested making mistakes and being in a company of people who knew something I didn’t know. I would spend extra time practicing things alone in order to come out perfect before others. I never at one point wanted people to notice my struggles and weaknesses and the worst being never seeking help from others because to me it portrayed defeat.
Growing older was a great eye opener to me, I met people of diverse caliber and many who were genuinely genius. It reached a point in life I felt burnt out and really got tired of proving myself to everyone and especially to the society. The mask I had worn since my childhood was now choking and suffocating me. For once I longed to break free from this cocoon of pretense, I wanted to be me in a world that always prompted me to be everybody else. I felt guilty each time yet in essence it felt I was not really doing anything wrong. Indeed it is really expensive to wear a mask because we have to cope with two faces each time, we have to come up with mechanisms of posing and masquerading. At the end of it all no matter the tenacity of our mask it will eventually reach its limit and it would crack, buckle or unravel.
This attitude went on and on for quite a long period of time but now am slowly learning to unmask and also to conquer the fear of failure. I can now even stretch out of my comfort zone and take risks because I have learnt the art of self’s true reflection. Knowing my identity in Christ has made me understand that my true face is beautiful and that he made it exactly the way He wanted it to be because he longs to see His reflection.
Psalms 139:14
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made, your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
At one point of our lives we come to the realization that we can never control our lives the way we thought we could. Many times we distant ourselves from others not because we resent them but rather we feel they may never understand us enough. We live in a world where everybody wants to mind their business and everyone wants to fix things their way. We fear people having to know about our struggles, our past, and many of us do not want people to have pity on us. With time we have mastered the art of burying those pains and the unresolved dark past.
The moment we embark on the journey of rediscovering the true face of God our maker, we begin the transformative journey. In stillness and quietness this en route leads us beyond reality into the realm of truth. The truth then illuminates our hearts enabling us to be set free from the bondage of masking. In one way or another we find ourselves still stuck with unresolved issues, things we try fixing on our own in our day to day life without others helping us out.
Is there a place trustworthy and so safe that my weaknesses and the worst part of me can be seen and known yet I won’t feel less loved or judged?
Am certain that most of us ask ourselves this question a thousand times and hey for the record such places do exist. When you land in such places be assured that the unresolved issues within begin to heal. You will automatically get rid of your mask without coercion and walk in broad daylight majestically. You will no longer experience the choking fumes of the mask but you will walk freely and enjoy the immutable peace, harmony and joy that comes with it.
God is waiting for us to come to him, his arms are wide open and he eagerly awaits to embrace us. When the world rejects us, when our friends betray us and when our families seem distant from us, God is always there for us and he won’t leave our side. God created us to have a communion with him and to have a relationship with him. It’s never too late to have your relationship restored with Jesus. One of the most satisfying and fulfilling thing on this journey is for us to re-discover the true meaning of cultivating relationships.
Everyone longs for authentic friends and people in their lives because as humans we are wired as relational beings. We live in a broken and fallen world and we come to the realization that the people we love and cherish end up hurting us the most. The sad truth is that God never intended that to happen, God is love and He expects us to love one another as much as we love ourselves. Can I honestly love another person more than I love myself? No way! That’s absolutely never happening, most of us will consent with this but in the real sense God has given us the grace and he calls us to love one another just as he loved us.
What is your identity in Christ?
Are you at the crossroads and experiencing identity crisis? Over the course of our lives our identity is formed and shaped and many times it is influenced by our experiences, relationships, culture and the world we live in. We are constantly on a journey of self- discovery and defining who we are in any way we can. The world many times gives us a false identity and hence we end up masking to please the world.
How does God see you?
Ephesians 1:3-5
How we praise the God, the father our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we belong to Christ. Long ago, even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. His unchanging plan has always been to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. And this gave him great pleasure.
What a great blessing to have the assurance that you are blessed with every spiritual blessing. That you are chosen, forgiven, loved and you are a daughter or son in God’s family. All you have to do is trust in him and live out of your new identity knowing that He has you covered.
This new identity helps you walk in freedom knowing that the old has gone and behold the new has come. He calls out for you to leave the two facets you have been putting on and to trust him. He wants you to experience His power healing in you as he releases you into a life worth living. He alone understands the language of your tears and the broken parts of you that have not been healed. The entirety of your life in Christ is just about how you learn to receive love.
When you begin to see yourself as Christ does, others begin to see you that way too. When you are steady and secure with your identity in Christ your actions and lifestyle will automatically express God’s love. Then you eventually discover the unspeakable joy of being with God and doing life with Him. Your life then becomes an integral part of the ongoing story that God had written when He breathe life into your existence. God created you for a purpose and hence you got to awaken to the truth that in Him you are unmasked and you are set free to walk boldly with the identity He has given you.

This is very educative.
Great piece indeed.
Growing up where you are expected to be perfect doesn't give one a chance to take risks and leads to condemnation and failure to look at our identity in Christ .
